Little Annie’s big trip

David and Little Annie with Ray Dedicoat

Little Annie must be one of the most-travelled dogs in the country after accompanying her owner on a 3,400-mile open-air tour of Britain.

The five-year-old Jack Russell-border terrier cross sat in her special box, wearing her goggles, leather cap and jacket, as her owner, David Westwood, circled the nation to raise more than £1,100 for an animal charity.

David, a Wythall artist who can regularly be seen with Little Annie at The Coach & Horses, Weatheroak, took four and a half weeks to ride his 125cc Honda Innova from home to Land’s End, up to John O’Groats then all the way back home again.

“It was a full circle, so we have done the length of Britain twice really,” David told The Village.

The only hitch came when David changed the oil a long way from anywhere and “someone” forgot to tighten the drain plug, so the engine seized. Luckily the RAC in Inverness was able to get them going again.

I met David & little annie on a campsite in Keswick.  What an interesting and inspirational man he is.  I’m so glad he safely completed the expedition.
