Marlbrook Tip inquiry pledge

The debacle that led to a reported million extra tonnes of waste being tipped on the Lickeys is to be investigated at Bromsgrove District Council.
Lickey & Blackwell Parish Council heard there will be an internal investigation into Marlbrook Tip and an external audit by an independent body is also being sought.
Coun Kit Taylor, who holds the planning portfolio at Bromsgrove, told the parish: “We have given the owner until the end of September to say what he aims to do about the situation. Once the application comes in, we will aim to reform the Marlbrook Tip group as an advisory group.
“Then there will be public consultation so we can come to some sort of resolution to this horrible situation.”
Coun Taylor added: “There is going to be an internal investigation into what has happened. Whether we get a formal task group together depends on workloads. Obviously, something went wrong.
“I hope that will alleviate a lot of the feeling of helplessness that’s out there.”
Meanwhile, Marlbrook councillor Brian Cooper, who is a member of Bromsgrove’s Overview and Scrutiny Board, said: “It was decided to ask the leader of the council to ask the chief executive to seek a review and audit from outside the council into what has happened.”
