Moving the goalposts . . .

Blackwell may have to move its goalposts to solve the problem of unwanted football matches being played.

The parish council heard that an adult team from outside the area had been using the pitch opposite Blackwell First School after the council installed goals there in the spring. Coun Janet King said: “No one know where they come from; it is a young adult team with a referee. They arrive in their cars and they leave litter and use language that’s not entirely savoury for the park.

“The school does see it as a problem. I think if they are using it on a regular basis they should be paying, but they are not being controlled at all.”

Coun King said the school was all for moving the goalposts closer together so that the pitch wasn’t big enough for the interlopers’ standard of football.
