Plans for this year’s Alvechurch Picnic in the Park on Sunday May 28 are taking shape, with the latest news being the announcement of an MC for the day.

This role will be taken on by Chris Davies (right), who will make announcements throughout the day and send out important messages.

For those who don’t already know Chris, this is what he says as a taster: “I’m a member of the Dramatic Society and the Morris Men. I’ve also done a bit of storytelling.

“I was responsible for the legendary Morris Side Story, which was performed at the Jubilee Picnic in the Park. I can often be found in The Weighbridge if anyone fancies buying me a drink!”

The organisers have also launched a new website to provide villagers with up-to-date information about the day, news as it happens, and to provide a forum for feedback. Take a look at http:// www.alvechurchpicnic.org

If you can’t find what you are looking for, it may be coming soon – but you can let the team know anyway by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

The organisers would like to thank Sarah Jane Marketing for the generous sponsorship, to Sarah Courbet for producing and writing the website, and to Anita Shaw of WebWise for helping with design and set-up.

This year, visitors to the Picnic will find new stalls and activities to keep the whole family occupied, including Creation Station “have a go” crafts and donkey rides, while Alvechurch Youth FC will be running sessions all afternoon.

If you have a charity, business or activity, and wish to apply for a stall, there is still time. Email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or find out more by searching for “Alvechurch Parish Picnic in the Park” on Facebook.

Money raised from activities at the Picnic goes to two local charities – The Wiggin Memorial Playing Fields, and The Lounge.

Mark Newberry, volunteer and trustee of The Lounge, says: “The 2016 donation helped us deliver a youth media course and run our community cafe – donations help the charity survive and we are extremely grateful for the support.”

The event’s regular sponsors are: Thomas Brothers, Michael Pretty Estate Agents, Lovell and Co, Logco.co, ABC Leisure and At Home with Lou.
