She’s still winning after all these years

More years ago than she cares to remember, Caroline Gosling won the Silver Wheelbarow at Rowney Green Flower Show.
This is the prize presented by Rowney Green Horticultural Society to the entrant gaining the highest number of points in the children’s section.
It wasn’t the only occasion Caroline won the wheelbarrow; her name is inscribed a number of times on the trophy.
And guess who won the Rose Bowl and the Lady’s Cup – the two top prizes for female entrants – this year?
Caroline Gosling, of course. So it was quite an honour for young Lydia Edwards, winner of this year’s wheelbarrow award, to stand for pictures with Caroline after the prizegiving.

Meanwhile, Caroline’s family had brought along a surprise she was less happy to be pictured with. In preparation for a future photographic competition, it was a shot of Caroline aged about eight in the late-ish 1960s displaying her prize (right).
The rest of the show was packed with stunning floral, fruit and vegetable entries that surpassed the expectations of horticultural society president Elaine Prosser.
Recently knighted Rowney Green medic Sir Keith Porter presented the prizes, including the Gentleman’s Cup to Andy Dunkers.
