Speed chiefs reveal Cofton road plans

Detailed plans for making the main road through Cofton Hackett safer have been sent to residents after their summer campaign to overturn a county council decision to do nothing.

The council has now written to confirm the speed limit will be reduced to 30mph from the Rednal island to about 175m south of the Reservoir Road junction.

There are a number of other changes, such as road markings to increase awareness of pedestrians, expected to be introduced by the end of the year.

But the county council wants to review the current changes before looking at the residents’ call to continue the 30mph limit down the hill past the junction with Cofton Church Lane.

Resident Mark James, who led the campaign, told The Village: “I will pursue the 30 mph speed limit to be extended from its new location. Providing all the road engineering work is completed by the new year, I would look to start campaigning again after the summer holidays end next year.”
