Villager solves dog bin bother

New bin

A Barnt Green resident who complained about dog mess being dumped in the village has taken the initiative by arranging the installation of a new bin.

The resident told parish councillors she had witnessed a London Midland rubbish collector removing bagged dog waste from an ordinary bin at the railway station and leaving it by the walkway leading into the Lickey Hills.

He told her this was because London Midland operatives were not allowed to handle dog mess, which should not be placed in a normal bin.

The council asked London Midland to investigate, but in the meantime the resident contacted the Lickey Rangers and arranged the installation of a specific dog waste bin at the site – paid for by the Baron Davenport’s Charity, of which she is a trustee.

The trust was set up by the Davenport brewery family and supports organisations within 60 miles of Birmingham.

London Midland told the parish council they had raised the matter with their cleaning contractors.
