Village’s ‘zero’ drugs problem

Posted on September 21 2011 at 11:39:02 0 comments

Alvechurch has a “zero” drugs problem, villagers were told by police in a set of figures that showed a very low crime rate across the parish.

PC Simon Albutt

Local beat officer PC Simon Albutt said there were no drug offences reported over the past six months, adding: “There is no drug issue at all in Alvechurch.”

Among other figures he revealed to the PACT meeting, there were only three burglaries reported between April and September and two reported robberies. “Two in six months is exceptionally low,” said PC Albutt.

Figures for reports of criminal damage (24), thefts (43) and violent crime (19) all showed spikes in April, July and August, which PC Albutt put down to the school holidays.

He explained that a report of criminal damage might be a football going over a garden fence, violent crime could be someone swearing at another person and a lost mobile phone might be recorded as a theft.

PC Albutt (right) also said the police had received only two reports related to the MUGA in Swan’s Length during the whole of July and August.

“Operation Krypton has now been closed down at the MUGA because we are not getting the calls to justify it, although we will be policing it as normal.

“I put it down to the community working together. We have been working with The Lounge and the youth worker Emily there – it is a proper joint agency approach,” he added.

Bromsgrove District Council is yet to implement the physical alterations at the MUGA recommended last year by an exhaustive public consultation into reports of problems there.
