Double yellow the solution

Sir – I was pleased to read in November’s Village that another local resident has raised concerns about the proposed car park opposite Tesco in Marlbrook.
This car park just doesn’t make sense. Will the motorists that now park on double yellow lines and on the pavements, bother to use the car park? Will it improve the safety at this junction? Will it add or detract from local residents’ lives?
I’ve suggested to Coun John Ruck in previous correspondence that the answer is simple: apply the same parking rules that apply elsewhere in Bromsgrove. Apply them evenly and apply them fairly. Use a traffic warden to issue penalty notices. You don’t get many repeat offenders. Not at £30 a time. This would stop the mayhem that regularly occurs.
However, Coun Ruck seemed to think that this action “does not take into account the attitude of many drivers”. Whatever that means.
This is not a council problem. This is a problem for Tesco and drivers.
If Coun Ruck is truly concerned about the safety at this junction, he would paint double yellow lines (allowing for residents’ parking) within a 200 yard (I’m old school) radius of Tesco.
That would radically improve the road safety aspect and local residents’ quality of life at a stroke. Or double stroke if you would prefer.
