All in this together?

Britain is facing its biggest financial crisis for a generation. The banking crisis of 2008, the credit crunch, the harshest austerity measures for many years, cuts in public expenditure and services, job losses in both the private and public sectors, rising youth unemployment, the closure of large and small business and freezing and actual cuts in wages and salaries.

A sparrowhawk crashed into our patio doors with a wood pigeon in its claws, so it probably forgot to use its brakes at the bottom of the swoop to kill the pigeon.

Why not try the car park?
Posted on March 20 2012 at 11:51:10

In response to Mr Carrington’s question “Where will we park?” (Village Views March 2012), there are two ideal car parks in Alvechurch, one at the Alvechurch club and the other, the council car park in Tanyard Lane.

‘Affordable’ is not ‘easy’
Posted on March 20 2012 at 11:48:10

In response to the letter “Overrun by affordable homes”, I too am disgusted – at the author’s ignorance towards the people who need “affordable” housing.

Perspective, please!
Posted on March 19 2012 at 11:50:10

In reply to “Overrun by affordable homes.”  I understand your desire to live in a “nice house in a good area” but please keep things in perspective – the percentage of affordable housing in the area is tiny and, while not a gated mansion estate, it’s not going to be a tower block.

Any ideas?

This picture was taken close to the centre of Alvechurch by Alan Ogden, of Hopwood. Can any reader figure out what it is and how the intricate patterns have been formed?

You may say Lickey End is nowhere near Barnt Green, but I believe anyone who currently lives in Barnt Green has worked hard to afford nice houses in a good area and wants their children to go to good schools, so why can you allow a company to build affordable housing her

Posted on September 15 2011 at 1:59:12

Regarding the letter in the September issue of The Village, “Reliable trains the priority”,  the problem with the Redditch branch is that it is a siding without passing opportunities between Barnt Green and Redditch and as it takes more than 20 minutes to do this trip, delays are common on a 30-minute interval service.

City’s expansion
Posted on August 22 2011 at 3:40:48

So, Birmingham is building a “town centre” on the Bromsgrove border. That, and they are building, I believe, 1,400 homes – most, if not all, of which will be inside the Bromsgrove boundary and yet count against Birmingham’s housing targets.

Posted on June 26 2011 at 10:47:57
