THE VILLAGE VIEW

OCTOBER 2013

Digging through a ten-year-old copy of The Village for the snippets produced on the right of this page brought back many happy memories of the days when villagers from all over the area would congregate for the Alvechurch Alight procession.

Swans’ walk

Some months ago we were delighted to have on Cofton Lake two swans and, within a short while, five cygnets.

Hewell memories
Posted on September 20 2013 at 11:58:34

I was stationed at Hewell Grange from 1945 to 1946. Although life there was rather primitive, I thoroughly enjoyed the 18 months I was there, mainly through the kindness of the people of Redditch and the history surrounding us at Hewell.

Another mess fine . . .

I did not see any dog mess on my summer visit to Louth in Ireland. Maybe this photo explains why.

A round of thanks

The Rotary Club of North Worcestershire are delighted to announce that their recent Charity Golf Day at Blackwell Golf Club raised just under £6,000.

£100 help
Posted on September 19 2013 at 11:59:34

May I, through your columns, thank Patrick Maddox for his generosity in passing on £100, given to him by his friends to mark a very special birthday, to “Save the Children”.

Rat-run solution
Posted on September 19 2013 at 11:51:34

I was wondering whether any other residents of the Oakalls have brought up the subject of vehicles using Regents Park Road as a “rat run” at high speeds?

When will people take pride in area?

Living in the Barnt Green/ Lickey area, I appreciate the rural setting of our locality. However I cannot understand how residents with houses worth more than £500,000 cannot cut their hedges back from footpaths and keep their grass verges cut and in a neat condition.

Hidden gem

Having just been into Alvechurch Library, joined and taken out a box full of books, I wonder how many other residents have missed this local jewel.

Use your heads

In the latest issue of The Village it was great to see so many cyclists on the 16th annual charity ride raising funds for such a worthy cause (Acorns Children’s Hospice).
