England should do more to celebrate its culture
Posted on December 30 2014 at 12:09:54

I was disappointed to note the comments of the writer in the December edition of The Village (“How do we feel?”).

Which way to turn?

In case you did not see the temporary directions due to local roadworks in force to motorists leaving Ash Lane, Hopwood, at the lane’s junction with the A441, I thought you may wish to use this picture (below) for readers’ amusement in The Village magazine.

To a most irresponsible dog owner using Branden Road’s footpaths and residents’ gardens in Alvechurch as a toilet. You are disgusting!

Lose the lights!

I note with interest that the works at the M5 Lydiate Ash roundabout will be completed in the spring at a cost of £11 million.

Bonfire bother

Your Alvechurch correspondent is quite right, there is an alternative solution to bonfires and the distress that is caused: either pay for and use a “brown wheelie” or make a journey to the site provided – no great problem.

Platform plea

I note from the Alvechurch Parish Council News page in the last issue, that the haul road at the “improved” railway station won’t be considered for a cycle track by the landowners.

Homes for our elderly

Regarding the McCarthy & Stone plans for Alvechurch, the effort being made by the developers to get villagers “on side” is huge (which means the potential profits are also huge) including advertising, leaflet door drops, surveys in The Square, the open day and of course the offer to the cricket club of a new clubhouse in return for digging up the Green Belt in the centre of the village.

THE VILLAGE VIEW

This column has focused on the Marlbrook Tip farrago on several occasions over the past few years; in fact, some of you might even be getting fed up with hearing us bang on about it.

Taking responsibility
Posted on December 30 2014 at 10:55:02

In response to “How do we feel?” in your December issue, I read with interest the fact that the gentleman classifies himself as an “ethnic minority” and continues to be offended by the blackened faces even though he understand the history behind it, which in no way represents any sort of racism whatsoever and is steeped in hundreds of years of history.

It works both ways

Am I alone in thinking that the latest letter from “Name & Address Supplied”, regarding the blackened faces of Morris Dancers, is being intolerant of other people’s beliefs and ancient customs?
