Weather Report with Phil Thomas
May was too cold to think of casting clouts
Posted on May 20 2009 at 5:45:32 0 comments

Alvechurch amateur weatherman Phil Thomas records the changes.
Up to the time of writing, May has been quite cold, with the mean temperature to the 19th at 10.6C, which is -0.8C below average for the month. Rainfall, meanwhile, was already 51mm, which is 90% of the average for the entire month.
The outlook for the end of May into June is uncertain at present, but the showery spell of weather seems to be settling down later in the month with the chance of a more settled and slightly warmer June.
Weather Lore:
Ne’er cast a clout till May be out. . .
. . . indicating that frost is still possible in this area even at the end of May.
(Editor’s note - or is it when the flower is “out” on the hawthorn or “May” tree?)
