Weather Report with Phil Thomas
Now the rain’s stopped, too

Alvechurch amateur weatherman Phil Thomas records the changes.
After one of the coldest Decembers, we have had one of the mildest and driest starts to the year for many years. The main reason for the settled weather is a continuation of the blocking high pressure to the west of the UK which was present for quite long periods last year.
March was very dry with less than half the normal rainfall and also more than 1.5 times the normal sunshine. There was a 16-day period from the 13th to the 29th with only a trace rain reading recorded over this period.
April has (until the 18th) again been a very dry month with only two days with any recorded rainfall – the 3rd and 4th – and with only very small amounts on those days.
The outlook seems very settled into the rest of the spring, although there are indications there may be some unsettled and wet spells to come.
