Acting out the year

The annual Mummers Play and Morris dancing extravaganza in Alvechurch kept villagers entertained.

Characters from the past year’s headlines – including a cowardly Boris Johnson, a randy Prince Andrew and an American doctor taking over the NHS – joined traditional favourites such as St George, the Turkish Knight, the Dragon and Sweet Moll for the Mummers Play outside The Crown Inn.

Other topical issues saw ‘The Green Man’ warning about climate change and ‘The Sad Punter’ complaining about The Crown turning into a gastropub.

The play was followed by dancing from Alvechurch Border Morris and visiting sides Aelfgythe, Jockey and Plum Jerkum. Donations raised £228, which will go to The Lounge.
