Alvechurch and Hopwood Cricket Club is putting its faith in the coaching skills of an Australian over this Ashes summer.

The club has taken on Sam Kindlen, an Australian Level III coach and grade cricketer, as club coach  for the 2013 season.

He has been asked to develop the club’s approach to training and preparation for adult cricket and to work with talented youth players as they move into the adult teams.

After his season in Alvechurch, he will be studying at Loughborough University and has been seconded to coach within the England & Wales Cricket Board’s cricket academy.

Will King, Alvechurch and Hopwood cricket chairman, commented: “We searched long and hard to find somebody who was right to work with our talented, but often under-prepared club.

“We interviewed several candidates and Sam has impressed us throughout as somebody with the common sense, people skills and knowledge to work successfully at Alvechurch.

“Sam will have 15 hours of coaching to devote to Alvechurch players every week and we can’t wait to start working with him.

“We would like to thank the club’s sponsors whose generous donations have made Sam’s appointment possible,” added Will.
