Brickworks blaze

The fire at the brickworks

Firefighters spent more than two hours battling a blaze among old tyres and rubbish near the old brickworks in Alvechurch.

The officers used water from the nearby canal to control the fire, which covered an area around the size of a football pitch.

Four fire crews were needed at the blaze last month, which left a pall of black smoke over the village and caused a number of gas cylinders to explode.
