Council counts cost of vandalism

Parish councillors are looking at ways to deter vandalism after a seat on the new play equipment at The Meadows, Alvechurch, was destroyed and stone seats were marked with paint.

Parish clerk Tammy Williams told the monthly council meeting: “The caretaker noticed a chunk of a seat on the sling rotator had been torn off.”

She said a replacement would cost the council £68.

Chairman Marc Worrall added: “It is a sturdy bit of rubber – that’s not been done accidentally. I hate to say it, but there is some malice involved.

“It is disappointing. This vandalism is costing us and parishioners money.”

Coun John Cypher asked whether there should be limited CCTV coverage at The Meadows.

Coun Worrall said: “If we can find any deterrent, so much the better.”
