Drop in to learn about road closure

Residents of Barnt Green can find out more about Severn Trent’s phased closure of Hewell Road this summer at two drop-in sessions.

Severn Trent, which is upgrading 500 metres of pipes in the village centre, will host the sessions on Thursdays June 27 and July 11 at Barnt Green Sports Club, Margesson Drive, B45 8LR between 3.30pm and 6.30pm

The work, to replace ageing water pipes with new ones in Hewell Road, is due to begin on Monday July 22 and take place in two phases.

Phase one will start at the junction with Bittell Road, working to the entrance into Station Approach. Phase two will continue along Hewell Road, from Station Approach to the junction with Sandhills Lane.

Severn Trent says access to the station and local shops will be available via signed diversion routes.

Gareth Mead from Severn Trent said: “To ensure residents in Barnt Green have a reliable water supply for many years to come and to reduce the number of bursts and leaks in the area, we need to upgrade 500 metres of water pipes that run through the village.

“To carry out this vital work, we will need to close sections of Hewell Road to through traffic throughout the summer, in order to keep our teams, pedestrians and road users safe.

“We do understand the disruption that this may cause, which is why we are hosting the drop-in sessions so we can update residents, show them our plans and answer any questions they may have.”
