Green Belt building row

Posted on October 21 2012 at 1:08:56

Alvechurch Parish Council is demanding to know why a national housebuilder is being allowed to keep an office it has put up on a Green Belt field without planning permission.

The council held an emergency discussion after the Taylor Wimpey site office appeared on Birmingham Road – opposite its new “Willow Brook” building site next to the M42.

Parish chairman John Cypher told colleagues: “Without agreement, Taylor Wimpey has put a site office on Green Belt land. They seem, without good cause, to have created this site office in an unauthorised way and without any reference to the people in the vicinity and in so doing they have added certain hazards to the road.

“This is not authorised by the planning authority.Meanwhile, Bromsgrove District Council has given them three months to allow this site office to remain.

“We have residents who aren’t happy with this. We have councillors who are not happy with this.”

Coun Adrian Smith said: “Bromsgrove is sending out the wrong message by allowing this to happen. It’s telling other developers they can get away with anything.”

The council agreed to write “condemning Taylor Wimpey for flagrantly breaching planning regulations” and to “express profound disquiet” at Bromsgrove’s enforcement actions.

Unless there was a better explanation of their decision the parish council would have a loss of confidence in enforcement.
