Gritty issue for Blackwell

Posted on November 30 2018 at 10:22:20

Lickey & Blackwell Parish Council has decided to fund its own grit bin after a request was turned down by the county’s Highways department.

Councillors had asked for a bin to be installed on Linthurst Newtown, where last winter a coach full of children had to be evacuated as the vehicle could not get over the railway bridge in the ice.

However, Highways said the location did not meet the relevant criteria, including number of residents and the incline of the road.

“It’s not good enough,” said parish clerk Lisa Winterbourn.

The council agreed to appeal to Highways once more, and if the answer was still no, they would fund a green bin themselves.
