Hopwood’s bare, naked ladies

The Hopwood WI cake bearing 90 bare, naked ladies.

Hopwood Women’s Institute celebrated its 90th anniversary with a cake bearing 90 bare ladies.

It was the centrepiece of a party attended by members and friends at The Ark church hall in Alvechurch.

Hopwood member Ann Thurrell told The Village: “The cake took about six months from conception to completion.

“I had two sessions to teach our WI members how to mould figures from sugar paste in various shapes, sizes and ethnicity and I made the very large chocolate cake on which to sit the ‘ladies’.

“We represent the modern WI. The Calendar Girls started it and we are carrying on the theme, proving that it’s more than Jam and Jerusalem.”

Part guests were also entertained by “Magic Bob” Cockbill and catered for by Barnt Green Cricket Club caterers. Worcester Federation Chairman Julia Rogers attended together with past presidents and members of Hopwood WI.

All members and guests were presented with a personalized book mark made by Betty Bushell and Tom Thurrell and a naked lady!
