Land Rover thieves strike again

Posted on January 19 2011 at 1:11:29

Another village Land Rover has been stolen, this time from a house in Cofton Hackett.

The blue Land Rover Defender, registration M73 PSS, was taken from a drive in Middle Drive sometime between midnight and 9.45am this morning (Wednesday January 19).

It was worth £7,000 and the owner had been working on it for a number of years.

West Mercia Police is currently investigating a spate of thefts of older Land Rovers, in particular Defenders, and has launched Defend Your Defender posters to alert owners and promote crime prevention advice.

It is believed the vehicles are being stripped down and the parts either sold in this country or exported.

Owners are urged to be extra vigilant and note any suspicious activity around their vehicles such as people hanging around or driving past slowly. They are also being advised to ensure immobilisers and other security devices are activated, and preferably to park the vehicle in a garage if they have one or out of sight of the road if at all possible.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the latest incident are asked to contact West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident 68-n-190111 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Police also welcome any information from people who may have noticed someone has access to different types of Land Rover Defenders or if they see an unusually large amount of these vehicles being kept somewhere in suspicious circumstances.
