Lounge ideas wanted

Trustees of the local charity that runs The Lounge community café and youth project in Alvechurch are asking residents and those in the surrounding villages to take part in a community survey.

It aims to discover the interests and needs of people in the community and what The Lounge can do to respond.

The survey consists of eight questions with suggestions of 30 activities – the trustees then intend to deliver the activities that get most votes.

There is also an opportunity for villagers to make their own suggestions. The Lounge would welcome volunteers to take part in planning and delivering the activities.

“The aim of the charity is to bring people in the community together,” says Bill Ulyett, chair of trustees. “We can integrate new activities within the café, so people can have a meal or a drink and stay for an activity or talk of interest to them.

“If needed, we can deliver activities in other venues in the parish. Please complete the survey and we will listen to you!”

The survey is now open online at or via

Villagers may also obtain a paper copy of the survey in several places in Alvechurch parish, including the The Lounge and Alvechurch Library.

The results of the survey will be published early in 2018. There will be many opportunities for volunteers to get involved in the new activities.

The invitation made to villagers in November to join the family of volunteers at The Lounge is still open.

“Volunteers are our engine because we are a community project,” says Bill. “Whether you are young or not-so-young-any-more, have a little time or a lot, we would like to hear from you.”
