Parish backs junction plan

Barnt Green Parish Council has given the thumbs-up to a property developer’s efforts to get villagers’ backing for their plans.

After Cala Homes, which is building 88 homes on fields behind the Barnt Green Inn, explained the reasoning behind revised plans for the junction of Fiery Hill and Kendal End roads, the council withdrew its objection to the idea.

At the same time, Cala Homes has agreed to hand over a new 28-bay car park being built on the Foxhills development to the parish council and arrange for money to be available when it needs resurfacing.

Cala has also agreed to install and pay for the future maintenance of nets to stop balls flying from Barnt Green Cricket Club into the new housing estate.

After the parish council’s change of position, Bromsgrove District Council’s planning committee approved a plan which substantially keeps the Fiery Hill Road junction in its current position near the railway bridge, but with increased vision because it will jut out further to incorporate the new footpath on the west side of the bridge.

Parish council vice-chairman Charlie Hotham told The Village: “It’s fantastic news that the new car park will be free to use in perpetuity.

“I’d like to thank CALA homes for the constructive way in which they have engaged with parish council, residents association and the community in general.

“It is also reassuring to know that the new junction layout will be as safe if not safer than the original proposal.”
