Parish fights back on lifts

Posted on November 27 2017 at 3:07:18

Following the revelation that Network Rail will not be providing the promised lifts at Barnt Green railway station in the near future, parish councillors have been discussing their next move.

Coun Charlie Hotham has written to MP Sajid Javid, who said he was “very concerned” and would be contacting Network Rail and the Minister for Disabled People.

Coun Hotham also raised the matter at county level, and hopes to arrange a station visit from Coun Ken Pollock, who is responsible for economy and infrastructure.

Chairman Robert Cholmondeley, who recently talked about the issue on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester along with a disabled village resident, told councillors:

“We have been stabbed in the back by Network Rail and we need to fully understand what has happened.”

He said he was trying to set up a meeting with Network Rail project sponsor Richard Dugdale, for whom he had four pages of questions – and also aimed to get hold of a copy of the Equality Report quoted by Network Rail.
