Picnic with the Bard

Posted on January 31 2016 at 11:18:01

Plans are afoot to give this year’s Alvechurch Picnic in the Park a Shakespearean theme, marking 400 years since the Bard’s death.

“As well as the 400th anniversary, rumour has it that Shakespeare’s skull is buried beneath St Leonard’s Church in Beoley – making him a local!” said organiser Claire Vas, adding that traditional May Day celebrations would also feature at the picnic.

Ideas for the 2016 event, which takes place on The Meadows on Sunday May 1,  were generated at a public meeting attended by community members, entertainers and stall holders.

Last year’s entertainment featured performances from local dance groups, musical players and a Zumba class. The organisers are keen to have new entertainment – get in touch if you’d like to show off your talents.

And if you are interested in advertising your local business or organisation, providing a games stand or running demonstrations then there may still be space.

The evening entertainment will take place at the Cricket Club with real ale and live music. If you would like the opportunity to promote your local band, please email Pete Gwilliam on .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Organisers also want to hear from anyone who could provide the loan of large gazebos and generators so that the event can be enjoyed come rain or shine.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who made the time to attend the meeting.
