Post Office calls in, for two hours

A mobile post office is now visiting Alvechurch once a week after the closure of the village branch.

Jon Bumphrey (above), the postmaster for Evesham who provides a mobile service to 17 other rural communities, will be parking in the car park of Alvechurch Sports & Social Club every Friday from 2–4pm.

Most of the usual services are available via the van, which is accessible for those with disabilities – but parish councillors have asked the Post Office if the service can be increased.

Chairman Marc Worrall told colleagues that the owners of Simply Fresh, in whose premises it is hoped a post office could be accommodated, are “likely” to submit a further planning application, but he urged the Post Office to “think laterally” about an alternative.

A Post Office statement said: “We are pleased to be able to reinstate a temporary mobile service while we continue to work towards a permanent solution.”
