Post office pledge

The Post Office has pledged its commitment to maintaining a service in Alvechurch.

Fears were raised after the village sub-postmaster for the past 19 years, Saeed Farajzadeh-Ahari, was jailed for stealing money from an elderly customer.

The six-month sentence meant he could no longer do the job and the business has been marketed for sale.

A Post Office spokesman said: “Alvechurch Post Office is currently open and operating as normal.

“If this changes in the future, we would like to reassure customers that we are committed to maintaining services in Alvechurch.”

Right: Saeed Ahari in happier times in 2007.
