‘Promising’ path ideas

The latest developments on the rail crossing diversion in Blackwell look “promising and optimistic”, Lickey & Blackwell parish councillors heard.

Coun Janet King told colleagues that she had met Richard Clewer from the county council’s Highways department and Richard Dugdale from Network Rail, and it was agreed that the diversion route should run along the inside of the hedge on Blackwell Road.

However, Blackwell Golf Club, whose land would be crossed by the diversion, did not send a representative to the meeting. Mr Dugdale had agreed to speak to them.

*  Barnt Green Parish Council is still pressing West Midlands Trains for extra signage at the railway station.

Parish chairman Robert Cholmondeley reported that he had made a site visit with the new station manager, Jonathan Rutland.

“He said there may not be any cables in place to install digital screens on Platform 1, but that’s just making excuses,” said Coun Cholmondeley.

“I deliberately held the meeting at a time when he would witness the problems, and about eight people were wandering about, asking which platform to use.

“Mr Rutland said he did realise the shortcomings and would raise them with his manager.”
