Protest grows against £30m hospital cuts

Bromsgrove MP Julie Kirkbride is leading a campaign to protest over plans for health cuts of up to £30 million which could have a big effect on provision for this area.

A public meeting was due to be held on November 5 in Bromsgrove where people could quiz local NHS Trust chiefs, John Rostill, Chief Executive, and Michael O’Riordan, Chairman.

The cuts could mean the closure of the maternity and children’s unit and the axing of A&E at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. They could also lead to closure of the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove.

Ms Kirkbride said: “The scale of these cuts is savage and makes a mockery of the idea of a local health service.

“The A&E units at both Redditch and Worcester are hardly able to cope as it is.

“I can’t imagine what planet these outrageous plans have dropped from. We must do everything we can to resist the downgrading of our local hospital.”
