With Christmas over and New Year resolutions to stick to, it’s the perfect opportunity to work towards a running event in Barnt Green.

Barnt Green Chuggers, the running group based at Barnt Green Sports Club, are organising the event on Sunday March 20 in conjunction with Barnt Green Parish Council.

There are 270 places available to run either one mile around the village or three or six miles passing by Bittell Reservoirs in a fun event for the whole family.

Starting and finishing from Millennium Park in the centre of the village, there’ll be plenty of entertainment, food and refreshments available both beforehand and then throughout the afternoon.

In 2014, the event in Barnt Green raised over £4,000 for charities and proved very popular with local people.

Mike Dickenson, chairman of the Chuggers running group, said: “The club positively encourages those wanting to jog, run, get fit and enjoy the company of others doing the same – and we see the Sport Relief Mile as a great way for people to ‘have a go’ and raise money for good causes.”

Mums, dads, youngsters along with road runners, joggers and those just wanting to enjoy their first fun run, will all feel at home with a choice of routes.

There will be waves of runners starting at 12pm, preceded by a warm-up in the park. The runners will finish by 2pm with entertainment in the park continuing after this.

With places limited and the event open to the whole country, if you’re local and want to take part, it’s a good idea to register online now at:

And once you’ve run the course and experienced the atmosphere of running with others, you might feel like joining the Chuggers on a Monday night as a friendly and fun way to keep running.

Sport Relief Mile entry fees: Adult, £7; Under-16, £3; Family (2 adults, 2 children) £17.
