Sinfonia survival at stake

Posted on November 17 2008 at 2:06:05

A village-based orchestra is urging music-lovers to support their concerts, warning that otherwise this season could be its last.

The Midland Sinfonia was formed in Alvechurch in 1995 by musician Nigel Morley, who for many years ran it almost single-handedly.

In 2001 it became a registered charity with a board of directors and MP Julie Kirkbride became president.

But audience numbers have fallen and the orchestra says its “future existence is uncertain”.

The board is trying Sunday afternoon concerts at the Artrix in Bromsgrove to attract a different audience, while hoping that the regular supporters in Alvechurch will also attend.

But the board told The Village: ”Unless audience numbers increase considerably, the 2008-9 Season of The Midland Sinfonia, sadly, will be its last.”
