Sports stars and friends enjoyed a night of fundraising at Barnt Green’s Deedar Indian Restaurant when Dougie Brown, Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s Director of Cricket, hosted an event in support of The Brain Tumour Charity.

Among the guests were former England cricketer and coach Ashley Giles and his wife Stine, who has twice been treated successfully for brain tumours and is currently raising money for the charity.

After the meal, Dougie and Ashley were joined by former Birmingham City footballer Darren Purse for a short question and answer session. The night also featured a raffle and auction with prizes such as a holiday in France, an Aston Villa hospitality package and a set of golf clubs from Sports HQ, raising a fantastic £1,900.

Deedar manager Dil commented: “It was a lot of fun and we were really pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.”

Stine added: “I am so grateful to Dougie for hosting such a successful evening.

“Less than two per cent of cancer research in the UK is directed to brain tumour research and I feel it is really important to support such an important charity.”

Stine is currently organising an Indian Summer Night’s Party to be held at Edgbaston Stadium in October for The Brain Tumour Charity, which she and Ashley will host.
