Town crier Kevin Ward checks out the cake stall

Bromsgrove Town Crier Kevin Ward (pictured above) was in good voice when he welcomed friends and families gathered outside Burcot Village Hall for the annual village flower show and fete.

Later, he announced the arrival of Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid, who was accompanied by his wife and family, to declare the show open.

There was plenty of entertainment including the Blackwell Brass Band, the Appalachian dancers and sheep racing, as well as children’s races and fancy dress and also a flower tent for all the exhibits.

Blackwell and Burcot WI provided afternoon teas and of course the mouth-watering cake stall, which this year for the first time included produce from their allotment: lettuces, marrows, courgettes and potatoes.

Barbara Savage, the president, was busy looking after the stall with her helpers, and she also judged the children’s fancy dress competition.

Rae Fowler, one of the organisers of the Burcot show as well as being WI vice-president, said she was very pleased this year’s show was again a great success.
