Gospel Oak’s claim to fame

Gospel Oak

After reading our ghost story, “A Cavalier in Blackwell”, in the October issue of The Village, 78-year-old Marlbrook resident Brian Cawson contacted us with some further information.

Having grown up in Blackwell, Mr Cawson remembers that his mother always referred to the tree in question as “The Gospel Oak” – he assumes that perhaps religious services used to be held there.

He also believes that the road (which used to take a slightly different course) was part of a coach road towards Wythall, but until now he had never heard of any ghostly activity on the site.

* Can anyone else shed any more light on the ghost story or on the tree’s unusual name? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
